Power Outage in Eden Island and Providence Areas Due to Electrical Fault, PUC Reports

The Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) has provided an update on the power outage that occurred on Thursday in Eden Island and parts of Providence areas. According to a press release issued by the PUC, the outage was caused by an electrical fault (flashover) on a medium voltage switch at its substation near the Pilgrims Security Building.

The incident took place at around 10:20pm on Thursday, July 20, 2023, resulting in the interruption of electricity supply to consumers in various regions, including Eden Island, Providence Industrial Estate, Les Mamelles, Roche Caiman, Brilliant, and Cascade. In response, PUC teams were immediately dispatched to investigate the cause and restore power to the affected areas.

By 1:40am on Friday, July 21, 2023, power had been restored to all affected areas except for a portion of Providence Industrial Estate near the Pilgrims Security Building. PUC expected to conclude the necessary repairs by late yesterday afternoon.

The PUC expressed gratitude to the customers who were affected by the outage for their patience and understanding during the restoration process.
