Renovation of Roche Caïman Tennis Courts Set to Begin in August

The international Tennis Federation (ITF) and the Seychelles government have reached an agreement on the start and finish period for the renovation project of the Roche Caïman tennis courts. After experiencing some delays, the work is now scheduled to begin in August and be completed in October.

The project, which has a total cost of US $136,250, will be jointly sponsored by the Seychelles government and the ITF. The contract agreement for the renovation work was signed in late December last year.

ITF development officer for East & Central Africa, Thierry Ntwali, recently visited the country to review and assess the progress of various projects, including the junior tennis initiative and the renovation work. During his visit, he received confirmation from the government that they are committed to completing the project within the proposed timeframe.

Ntwali emphasized the importance of timely completion, as the rainy season is approaching and further delays could occur. He also highlighted the benefits of the renovation, stating that it will not only attract more potential players but also meet the ITF’s criteria to host international events. This, in turn, will benefit both the sport and the tourism industry in Seychelles.

The ITF is contributing US $40,000 towards the project, and Ntwali expressed the need for all relevant partners to fulfill their respective roles. He concluded by announcing his intention to return to the country in October to officially open the new tennis facilities.

With the renovation project finally set to begin, tennis enthusiasts and the Seychelles Tennis Association (STA) can look forward to a modern and improved tennis infrastructure that will enhance the sport’s development and potential in the country.
